Area
To be eligible for free cycle stands your organisation must install them at premises situated in one of the areas listed. We hope to launch more schemes in other areas shortly.
Contact
The contact must be someone we can talk to about your application and who knows where you plan to install your cycle stands.
Special Instructions
Tell us about opening hours or any access issues. If the building is likely to be unstaffed please tell us if there is somewhere we can leave the stands.
[100 words max]
Do you own the premises, or do you have permission from the land owner to install cycle parking here ?
You must install the stands on your own property or have the consent of the landowner. You cannot install stands on the public highway.
Do you have to install cycle parking at these premises as part of a planning application ?
We cannot provide you with free stands if they are required as part of planning consent.
Are these premises in a conservation area or do they include listed buildings ?
If you are planning to install your cycle stands close to a listed building or in a conservation zone you may need permission from your local council and/or the relevant heritage body. You need to contact them and discuss your plans before you apply for free stands.
Uploads
Please upload up to 3 photographs or diagrams to help us understand where you plan to install your stands. The images don’t need to be works of art, but please ensure they are as clear and accurate as possible! Please show the location of buildings, doorways and access points.
Convenient
Cycle parking should be located in prominent locations where it is easy to see and to reach. Choose a high status location (the main entrance or the front of the building) rather than a low status one (behind the bins or the far end of the car park). See if it is possible to install the stands under an existing awning or an overhanging roof to provide some weather protection.
Solid surface
Cycle stands need to be installed on a solid, level, durable surface such as tarmac, concrete, slabs or block paving. Never put cycle parking on unsurfaced ground or on grass, because this rapidly wears down and becomes muddy and unpleasant.
Safe & secure
Make sure that the stands are not installed where they can be bumped by passing motor vehicles. Consider security issues too. Choose a location with a good level of informal surveillance: for example beneath a window or close to a busy reception area. If you have CCTV, position the cameras to give a good view of the cycle parking.
Adequate space
It is very important that you allow enough space for the stands.
- Stands need to be fitted at least 600mm from a wall otherwise bikes will not be supported properly and are likely to topple over.
- If the stands are too close to a wall cyclists will be unable to lock the wheel and the frame of the bike properly.
- Stands need to be installed at least 1,000mm apart. If the stands are too close together it makes parking difficult and bikes are likely to get scratched and tangled together.
- Please ensure that you follow our installation instructions.

Terms and conditions
- The ParkThatBike scheme provides free cycle parking stands for organisations within particular local authority areas. Individuals and households are not eligible to apply.
- The number of stands we have available is limited. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. We give voluntary sector groups, community organisations and small businesses priority over large commercial organisations. We reserve the right to reject applications at our discretion.
- If your application is approved we will dispatch your stands by carrier to the address you gave us.
- When we supply your stands we give you eight weeks to install them in the location you have told us about. If you do not install them – correctly – within that time you must return the stands to us or be liable for the full cost.
- You must send us a photograph to show that the stands have been installed correctly.
- When we are satisfied that the stands have been installed, correctly, they become your property.
- You must also complete a short survey that helps us ascertain whether the stands are being well-used and whether they have helped to increase cycling and to reduce cycle theft.
- We may also e-mail you about future offers relating to cycle parking.
- We are not responsible for any damage, loss or injury that occurs during the installation of the stands or that results as a consequence of the stands being in place. You, the recipient, are responsible for resolving all land ownership issues and obtaining the necessary permissions to install the stands. You are also responsible for all health & safety matters and for meeting any relevant legal and statutory obligations. If you engage a contractor to install your stands we strongly recommend you ensure they have the necessary skills, and that they carry appropriate insurance cover.

To be eligible for free cycle stands you must:
