Newcastle cycle parking scheme wins continued funding. A trial ParkThatBike scheme launched in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in July 2011 has been declared a success. A wide range of organisations, including workplaces, community centres, pubs, restaurants and surgeries have benefited from the offer of two cycle stands free of charge.
The scheme is now too be extended and it also covers neighbouring Gateshead too. Newcastle City Council regards the scheme as an important part of its cycle promotion strategy along with initiatives such as route improvements, cycle maps, an on-line journey planner and the popular ScratchBikes bike share scheme.
